Years later, Mrs. X wanted to convert the joint ownership to sole ownership in her name. However, she discovered that Mr. X’s siblings were claiming their inheritance rights, arguing that his 50% share should be distributed among all legal heirs as per succession laws. Additionally, the Indian Succession Act, 1925, and Hindu Succession Act, 1956 (for Hindu families) or personal laws for other communities apply. Section 14 of the Hindu Succession Act grants absolute ownership rights to Hindu women. The Transfer of Property Act, 1882, and Registration Act, 1908, govern property transfers and documentation requirements for establishing clear title.
