In short: an unfreeze application is a short, formal request — to the cyber cell that placed the freeze and to your bank — asking that your account be released or the lien narrowed to the disputed amount. It works best when it is factual, documented and correctly addressed.
The two applications you may need
- To the cyber cell (the decisive one): a representation seeking release, because the freeze rests on the police instruction.
- To the bank’s nodal officer: a request to implement the release and to limit any lien to the disputed amount.
What to include
- Your name, account number, branch and any freeze/complaint reference.
- A brief, factual account of the disputed credit and its lawful source.
- A statement of cooperation with the investigation.
- A clear request: release the account, or narrow the lien to the disputed amount.
- A list of the documents attached.
Documents to attach
- KYC (Aadhaar / PAN as accepted).
- Bank statement showing the disputed transaction.
- Proof of the source of the funds.
- Any freeze memo or NCRP acknowledgement.
Frequently asked questions
Does the application have to be in English?
English is widely accepted, but the local official language is equally fine. What matters is that it is clear, factual and documented.
Whom should the application be addressed to?
Primarily the investigating cyber cell that placed the freeze, with a copy to the bank’s nodal officer to implement the release.
Will one application be enough?
Sometimes. If the cyber cell does not act, a follow-up and, if needed, a court application may be required.
