Editorial Policy & Methodology
How we research, write, and review.
Articles published on this website are intended to be reliable references for fellow advocates, law students, and the informed reader. This page documents the process — the primary sources we consult, who drafts the content, who reviews it, and who approves publication. It is part of our commitment to Google's E-E-A-T guidelines and to the standards expected of a YMYL legal resource.
1. Primary sources
Every article relies on primary legal sources, in this order of preference:
- Bare Acts — the un-annotated text of the statute as enacted by Parliament or the State Legislature. Where a relevant amendment is in force, the consolidated text including the amendment is used.
- indiacode.nic.in — the Government of India's official repository of Central and State Acts. Citations to statute in our articles link to this source where applicable.
- Indian Kanoon — open, search-accessible repository of reported judgments of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, High Courts, and tribunals. Citations to case law in our articles link to this source where applicable.
- SCC Online / Manupatra / SCC Reports — used internally for verification of citations and head-notes, but linked-to only where the source is freely accessible to the reader.
Secondary sources — practitioner texts, law-review articles, treatise commentary — are used to frame issues but are not relied on for binding propositions of law. Where a secondary source is cited, the underlying primary source is also cited.
2. Drafting
Articles are drafted by Sudhir Rao, Advocate, on the basis of his own preparation in matters of similar character, the primary sources listed above, and (where relevant) recent unreported orders made available to the Chamber. The drafting standard is that of a working brief — facts and law in plain language, with citations sufficient for the reader to verify each proposition independently.
3. Peer review
Each article is reviewed for legal accuracy by Jyoti Rao — Advocate, Bar Council of Delhi, enrolled 2023, Delhi High Court Bar Association. The reviewer's role is to:
- Verify every statute citation against the current text on indiacode.nic.in;
- Verify every judgment citation against the reported text on Indian Kanoon, including the citation, party names, year, and ratio relied on;
- Flag propositions that overstate, oversimplify, or read selectively from the underlying authority;
- Flag any statement that could be read by an ordinary visitor as legal advice on a specific matter (rather than general information).
4. Approval and publication
An article is published only after final approval by Sudhir Rao — Advocate, Bar Council of Delhi, enrolled 2021, Supreme Court Bar Association Reg. S-03755. The author is responsible, in his personal capacity as an enrolled Advocate, for the content of every article that bears his byline.
5. Dates of publication and review
Each article carries two dates: the date it was first published, and the date it was most recently reviewed. The "last reviewed" date is updated whenever an article is checked against the current state of the law — not merely when typographical fixes are made. Articles that touch on an amended statute are reviewed within a reasonable time of the amendment taking effect.
6. Errors and corrections
If you believe an article contains a factual or legal error, please write to us at me@sudhirrao.com. Our process for handling reported errors is documented at /corrections.
7. What this website is not
Nothing on this website is legal advice, an invitation to engage the Chambers, or a substitute for advice in any specific matter. We follow the Rules of the Bar Council of India strictly; the BCI compliance note that appears on entry to this site is binding on every visit. For advice on a specific matter, please request a consultation.
8. Use of AI
AI tools (including large-language-model assistants) may be used in the Chambers for research support, drafting outlines, or summarising long judgments — in the same way that a junior would be asked to prepare a brief. No content is published on this website that has not been (a) verified line-by-line against primary sources by the author and (b) peer-reviewed as set out in section 3 above. The legal responsibility for every published article rests with the author personally.
This editorial policy is itself reviewed periodically. Last reviewed: 7 July 2026.
